Since the 2000s, Sherlock Holmes has been a recurring character on both the small and big screens. The famous detective was first played by Robert Downey Jr. in 2009 and 2011 in front of Guy Ritchie's camera for two fast-paced adaptations of his adventures. Then, starting in 2010, the BBC produced a series starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the tenant of 221B Baker Street, in which the hero evolves in our time. Starting in 2012, it was the American channel CBS that got involved with the series Elementary, with Jonny Lee Miller as the detective and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson - a gender switch also set in the modern era. In 2020 and 2022, it was Netflix's turn to offer its version of the detective with Enola Holmes 1 and 2, starring Henry Cavill and Millie Bobby Brown, and whose sequel should be coming soon. And here he is again, playing David Thewlis in Sherlock & Daughter!

David Thewlis (Harry Potter) and Blu Hunt (The New Mutants, Another Life) step into the shoes of Sherlock Holmes and Amelia Rojas, a young woman who pretends to be his daughter. The pitch?
1895. For the first time in his career, Sherlock Holmes seems to have found a worthy opponent. The famous detective is unable to solve a sinister case in the heart of London. With his back to the wall, he will have to count on the unexpected help of Amelia, a young American woman who has just arrived in England and who claims to be... his daughter! Together, the unlikely duo will have to thwart an international conspiracy, solve the mystery behind the death of Amelia's mother, and discover if the young prodigy is indeed the daughter of the legendary Sherlock.
Sherlock & Daughter, a hit series
This series, from the CW, is available for streaming on Paramount+ for French viewers, while it is available on the HBO platform for American audiences. On Max, Sherlock & Daughter Daughteris in the top 10 most watched programs (we find it in fourth place according to Variety). Audiences have given the series a very positive reception, with a score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
I haven't talked about it much since I admitted I didn't get super-invested until about mid-season, but anyone else watch Sherlock and Daughter on CW? I haven't talked about it much because I admit I didn't get super invested until mid-season, but anyone else watching Sherlock and Daughter on the CW? It's a fun historical drama with good performances, touches of humor, and a captivating mystery. I really want/need there to be a second season.
On the CW, it had the best ratings of the season. It was even nominated for the Golden Nymph Award for Best World Fiction Series at the upcoming Monte Carlo Television Festival. We wouldn't be surprised if a second season is confirmed soon!
