Galaxy S26: Will Samsung dump Google? A secret deal could force Perplexity by default

Samsung and the artificial intelligence startup are reportedly about to sign an agreement for the native integration of the Perplexity app into Samsung smartphones. This is what we learn from the very serious newspaper Bloomberg.

Such an agreement could come into effect as soon as the next Galaxy S, the Korean brand's most prominent high-end smartphones, the next version of which, the Galaxy S26, is expected in the first two months of 2026. As the details have not yet been finalized, the official deployment date may still be subject to change.

Perplexity by default?

Concretely, the agreement would mean that Samsung would install Perplexity as its default chat bot, instead and Gemini's place. A big coup for the Californian company, which would secure a prominent position alongside the world's leading smartphone vendor, and which would beat Google to the post, no less than Google, whose Gemini is currently the default choice for Samsung users.

Samsung and Google are working hand in hand on many projects. The development of Android 12L, an alternative version of Android for tablets and foldable smartphones, was carried out with the help of Samsung. Android XR, Google's platform for virtual, mixed, and augmented reality glasses and headsets, is banking heavily on the Moohann project, a first mixed reality headset developed by Samsung. By partnering with another player, the Korean giant is undoubtedly looking to diversify its strategic partnerships.

It should be noted, however, that Samsung and Google will undoubtedly continue to work together on all these projects. Google's AI solutions, integrated into the Korean company's interface, One UI 7, are also expected to continue to be so in the years to come.

The Motorola precedent

It should be noted that this would not be Perplexity's first agreement with a smartphone manufacturer, as the company has already signed a partnership with Motorola on its Razr 60 Ultra. In Motorola's case, Perplexity isn't offered by default, but simply pre-installed with 3 months free on its premium subscription. The arrangement with Samsung would therefore go much further in terms of involvement for both companies.

Moreover, Bloomberg also suggests that Samsung would be ready to invest in the startup, taking advantage of a fundraising round. The startup would help the Korean giant develop an operating system (OS) geared towards the introduction of an AI agent.
