Hollow Knight Silksong great news after disturbing discovery

After playing with the nerves of players waiting for it throughout Summer Game Fest 2025, Hollow Knight Silksong has given some indirect news. This is notably thanks to an update on various websites, including the one on Xbox. Recently, Team Cherry's title received an ESRB rating that could cast doubt on the monetization of the Hollow Knight sequel. Usually relatively discreet, the Australian studio didn't wait long this time to set the record straight.

Hollow Knight Silksong unravels the micro-thread of intrigue

Following the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, which simply presented Hollow Knight Silksong as the flagship of the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally PC/portable console hybrids, players waiting for it were, some would say, in a red nose. We had to wait for an update, notably on the game's Xbox page, to get some more concrete news. We learned, in particular, that the title should finally arrive this year. Hollow Knight Silksong's US Xbox page also displayed its age classification by the American organization ESRB.

This one thus received a relatively unsurprising "T for Teen" (or 7+ by PEGI in our country), unlike the mention of "in-game purchases (which include random items)." This immediately made fans think that Team Cherry's highly anticipated game would include some form of microtransactions. The reactions were swift, and players were already starting to grumble. After a little investigation to be sure, Matthew Griffin, the game's marketing manager, responded to worried fans by stating that "this information has no place here, there is nothing like that in the game."

Thus, Hollow Knight Silksong should not answer the silky siren song of microtransactions and remain a worthy successor to the first opus. It could be that the ESRB has confused "in-game purchases with random items" with some kind of merchant that Hornet can meet throughout his adventure. To be sure, we must unfortunately still be patient, while we wait for a truly set release date for Hollow Knight Silksong.
