Is the answering machine always going off too early on your smartphone? Here's how to never miss a call again.

Do you always miss your calls? It's probably your answering machine's fault, especially if it goes off at lightning speed. Fortunately, there's a simple solution to fix the problem.

Is the answering machine always going off too early on your smartphone? Here's how to never miss a call again.

You've definitely experienced this kind of situation. You're relaxing on your bed or the couch, and for once, you've left your smartphone somewhere in the apartment.

And then your phone rings. You rush to pick it up, but before you know it, your caller has already gone to your answering machine. They'll (probably) leave a message, and you'll call them back right away. A waste of time, in short, when all it would have taken was a few more tones to give you time to pick up.

Tired of missing your calls? This simple setting can solve the problem

Few people know this, but when you get an incoming call, your answering machine will take over after a certain amount of time. However, this delay is set by default by your operator. With Orange, for example, your caller will be sent to your voicemail after about twenty seconds of no answer. At SFR, this delay varies between 15 and 20 seconds. The same goes for Free, where the answering machine is triggered after 4 rings, or approximately 20 seconds.

However, you should know that all operators offer the possibility of setting this delay. In this article, we will give you the procedure to follow with the four main operators on the market, namely Free, SFR, Orange and Bouygues Telecom. Let's go!

Is the answering machine always going off too early on your smartphone? Here's how to never miss a call again.

How to change the number of rings before triggering the answering machine

At Orange

So we start with Orange. As mentioned above, the historic operator offers its subscribers the possibility of setting the number of rings before triggering voicemail. You should know that by default, your answering machine takes over after 5 rings. Let's see how to change this setting.

From your phone:

  • Dial the following number on your mobile: *610*
  • Then enter the number of rings you want to apply (from 2 to 9)
  • Enter # to confirm your choice
  • Normally, you should hear this: “Thank you, from now on your call will be automatically forwarded to voicemail or another number after X rings”

At Bouygues Telecom

Let's continue with Bouygues Telecom. Like its competitors, the operator offers its subscribers the possibility of personalizing their mobile answering machine. You can create/modify an access code to your voicemail, customize your welcome/absence announcement, switch calls directly to your voicemail or, in this case, extend the waiting time before the answering machine is triggered. Here's how to change this setting.

From your phone:

  • Take your smartphone and dial the following number: **61*0660660001**10#
  • Then press the Call button. In this situation, the delay will increase to 10 seconds before the mobile answering machine is triggered.

To apply a longer delay, simply change the number 10 at the end to the number of your choice, up to a maximum of 30. Of course, you can change this duration at any time by repeating the procedure.

At Free

We continue with the web troublemaker, namely Free. With the operator, the answering machine is triggered by default after 4 rings, or after about twenty seconds without an answer. At most, it is possible, as with Bouygues, to increase this delay to 30 seconds. Here's how to do it.

From your phone:

  • Take your smartphone and dial the following number: **61*0653600011*30#
  • Then press the call button to confirm the operation
  • The following message should appear on your screen: “Call transfer. Recording successful”

Note that with Free, it is even possible to make the call ring indefinitely without ever triggering the answering machine. To do this, simply:

  • Dial ##61# on your phone and press the green call button
  • To return to normal, simply repeat the procedure mentioned above, applying the duration of your choice to the end of the number (between 1 and 30)

At SFR

We finally finish with SFR. With the operator with the red square, a caller will be sent to your voicemail after 15 to 20 seconds. As with its competitors, it is obviously possible to extend the ring time and therefore give yourself more time to answer a call. Here's how to change this setting.

From your phone:

  • Take your smartphone and dial the following number: **61*+33612000123**30#
  • Confirm the operation by pressing the call button

As with Bouygues or Free, the last number corresponds to the time in seconds that you can choose before your caller goes to your voicemail. Note that it is impossible to exceed 30 seconds.
