Liquid Glass for tvOS 26… and not much else

Liquid Glass, Apple has been talking about it since the launch of WWDC! The manufacturer's new design signature is rolling out everywhere in all operating systems, from iOS 26 to macOS Tahoe 26 and CarPlay, so why not in tvOS 26 too!

Transparency or confusion?

Apple TV 4K owners (only the 2nd and 3rd generation models from 2021 and 2022) will benefit from translucent buttons and interface elements. The manufacturer presents Liquid Glass as a way to "keep content at the center of the viewing experience", but from the little we've seen of iOS 26, all this transparency has an unfortunate tendency to blend in with the content underneath. Apple has all summer to increase the contrast a little.

Among the micro-changes trumpeted as new features by Apple: the Apple TV app displays program visuals as posters, instead of thumbnails. Now that's innovation. In the same vein, waking up the Apple TV (the box) from standby automatically displays the different profiles for faster access.

Much more interesting: it's finally possible to designate an AirPlay speaker as a permanent speaker for the Apple TV, like HomePods. No more fiddling with audio settings every time you turn on the box.

The FaceTime feature, which pairs an iPhone with Apple TV to turn it into a luxury webcam, offers live captioning in new languages: German, Korean, Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin, and French. Phone call and FaceTime notifications from the iPhone will appear on the TV for the active profile.
