Marvel's Black Panther didn't even get a proper image. In order to "better target [their] action and put [their] creative energy toward the most significant growth opportunities", according to EA President Laura Miele, the game has been canceled. For the moment, Electronic Arts' Iron Man title seems to be spared, as does Mass Effect 5, which will come as a relief to fans of BioWare's space opera. There's still a long way to go before we see the RPG saga again, but the publisher has decided to bring the franchise back in another form this week.
Mass Effect goes into total war mode
Electronic Arts is reviewing its strategy, and unfortunately, some games and teams are paying the price. "The company will focus on a small handful of franchises and place its creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities," said Laura Miele, president of Electronic Arts, in an internal email. Among this handful of licenses, there is Mass Effect, but also Battlefield, which is currently doing its best to return to top form with the next game expected by March 31, 2026 (at the latest). And EA has chosen to bring the two sagas together in a crossover. On June 17, 2025, Battlefield 2042 will receive an update 8.9.0 that will launch this encounter with Mass Effect. What exactly should we expect? Nothing huge, but several cosmetic packs will be available between June 17 and July 1, 2025, for all BF 2042 players.
- Galactic Bundle (1,750 BFC)
- Scoped & Dropped Bundle (2,000 BFC)
- Mass Effect Citadel Bundle (3,000 BFC)
Note that the "Citadel Bundle" is a special pack that contains all the cosmetics from the Battlefield 2042 X Mass Effect event. ME is therefore giving some of its fans a nice surprise, but not the one they expected, and that will be disappointing. Indeed, instead of a collaboration, the majority would rather have concrete information on Mass Effect 5, which could not happen for a long time. In all likelihood, the next game won't be released before 2028 or even 2029. By then, the PS6 and the future Xbox will normally be on the market... That's how far away it is...
