Meta AI already claims 1 billion monthly users: a success boosted by its ecosystem?

Launched only last April with the aim of gaining new market share against OpenAI's ChatGPT, the time has come to take stock of Meta AI.

According to a CNBC article published this Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg gave initial figures during the annual meeting which brings together Meta shareholders. During this meeting, the company's CEO reportedly announced that he had one billion monthly users for Meta AI.

And while OpenAI's competitor is still a long way from reaching 400 million weekly users, this first report shows significant progress.

A figure counted across the entire Meta ecosystem

While we can only welcome these first figures after only two months of launch, it should be remembered that Meta AI has been integrated into all of the company's applications.

Indeed, users can now use Meta's artificial intelligence in Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, but also in Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer glasses and Quest headsets.

In addition to having integrated Meta AI into its social networks, the company also launched an application dedicated to its artificial intelligence. However, this is still far from unanimous, in favor of WhatsApp...

WhatsApp, the big favorite for using Meta AI

Among all the applications, Susan Li, CFO at Meta, said that the most impressive growth for Meta AI was on WhatsApp.

Within the instant messaging service, users can directly interact with artificial intelligence by asking questions through simple messages, or even by sending images.

With Mark Zuckerberg having announced earlier his desire to integrate advertising into Meta AI, or even to recommend products in the same way as Perplexity, the WhatsApp interface would seem particularly suitable.

Impressive growth... but artificial?

During his speech, Mark Zuckerberg did not specify whether the number of interactions per user with Meta AI, nor the degree of satisfaction of the latter.

Although some might think that usage is artificially inflated by the presence of Meta AI in all of the company's applications, these initial figures remain very encouraging.

While some may be skeptical about the figures announced at this general meeting, we should know whether usage continues to skyrocket or not in the coming months.

Furthermore, remember that Meta AI's business model remains very uncertain. While advertising could be a solution, Mark Zuckerberg notably intends to develop a "Premium" version of his artificial intelligence, as his competitors are doing, although this has not yet been specified further...
