MindsEye is the next game from Leslie Benzies, the former producer of the Grand Theft Auto saga and president of the Rockstar North studio (between 2000 and 2016). After being fired by Take Two Interactive (Rockstar's parent company), Leslie Benzies founded his own studio, Build A Rocket Boy, and began development on his ambitious Everywhere project.
Everywhere was to be a Metaverse, similar to Fortnite, allowing it to be much more than a video game. The goal was to be a true "second world", offering an experience, more than a video game, with "normal" sequences and virtual reality areas. The goal of Everywhere is to be a platform for socializing with other people, playing games, watching movies, doing activities, and much more.
At the moment, the project seems rather vague and confusing, and it's still unclear where the studio wants to go and when the project will finally arrive. But, in any case, MindsEye was originally supposed to be a game available in Everywhere.
Announced in March 2023, the game has undergone quite a few upheavals and changes. Now, it's being produced in partnership with IO Interactive (Hitman) and is expected to be released like any other game, in stores. To find out everything about this project, which promises to be quite enigmatic, we offer you a special report with all the information we have to date. Of course, the file will be continually updated over the weeks and months, until the game's release.

Controversies, lies, defamation: chaos before the release
Just a few days before the release of MindsEye, the Build A Rocket Boy studio is at the center of numerous controversies and polemics. Following the numerous mixed feedback (and even downright negative) regarding the preview and communication around the game, co-CEO Mark Gerhard completely broke down by accusing studios, and making heavy reference to Rockstar Games, of having paid journalists, content creators and influencers to speak ill of the game.
At the same time, former developers and current members of the studio are starting to speak out on social media to evoke a toxic and unpleasant atmosphere surrounding the studio's management. Many developers confirm that they don't know what they're working on and have no hope for the future of Build A Rocket Boy. All the info in our dedicated file.

Will MindsEye be a single-player or multiplayer game?
Most recent update:
Update – March 29, 2025: In its recent press release announcing the release of MindsEye on June 10, 2025, Build A Rocket Boy confirms once again that it will be a single-player game. However, the studio also confirmed that a multiplayer experience was in the works and that it will arrive next year, in 2026. No further information at this time.
MindsEye will be a single-player game only, and was not expected to feature an online mode. Since the game was planned to be released in Everywhere, it is unknown if online features were to be present in connection with Everywhere, or not.
What will MindeEye be about?
MindsEye is an action-adventure game set in the near future, in the fictional desert city of Redrock. In the game, artificial intelligence and human greed clash to bring the Earth to the brink of collapse. The title is described by the Build A Rocket Boy studio as a game featuring a captivating story, strategic combat, and explosive driving.
In this game, we will play as Jacob Diaz, who is played by Alex Hernandez, the actor who played Lincoln Clay in Mafia III. Jacob Diaz is a former soldier haunted by flashbacks of a life-changing undercover mission. He will be at the origin of the game's plot, as Jacob possesses a mysterious brain implant, known as MindsEye. Knowing that he himself knows almost nothing about this implant.
Jacob arrives in Redrock hoping to discover more about the company that created his implant. His search for answers begins as a personal quest, but it quickly evolves into something much larger. Because, of course, Jacob isn't the only one searching for the truth, and the forces working in the shadows are more powerful and dangerous than anything he could have imagined.
Will MindsEye be an open-world game?
Most recent update:
Update – March 29, 2025: Contrary to what the studio implied at the very beginning of its communication, it seems that MindsEye is not ultimately an open-world game. In any case, the communication of the title seems quite strange and the opposite of the communication during the first months. Now, it seems that the game offers semi-open areas in a narrative action game that would not allow you to visit the city of Redrock in complete freedom.
Yes, the game will allow you to discover the city of Redrock in complete freedom with this futuristic atmosphere and this omnipresence of robots and AI, allowing you to create new interactions and face new dangers. The open-world will allow you to discover how much AI has been able to change the way of life of inhabitants and humans.
The city of Redrock will offer automated systems that manage many aspects of the city. Of course, this will give you access to quite a few side stories, perspectives, and hidden truths just waiting to be discovered.
Combat, driving, what does MindsEye promise?
The game should offer you intense action, whether on foot, behind the wheel, and even in the air, where every decision can mean the difference between survival and death.
The game should offer dynamic gameplay where you will be able to use your environment to gain the upper hand on your opponents. It will be possible to take cover, find high points, transform your environment into tools for survival, whether by exploding a gas barrel at the right time or using your enemies' weapons to your advantage.
The studio promises a fluid, dynamic, and rewarding combat system for the player who adapts his approach to each encounter. It will even be possible to activate your drone which will support you as you progress through the missions.
But gunfights won't be the only highlight of the game. MindsEye will also feature driving, including high-speed chases that punctuate Jacob's adventure, pushing his driving skills to the limits. These sequences will take you through varied environments, ranging from crowded cities to industrial areas, campsites and deserts, immersing you in a living and breathing world in constant motion.
Will you need to own Everywhere to play MindsEye?
Originally, this seemed to be the plan. MindsEye was supposed to be a game in the Everywhere experience. But, apparently, things have changed with the partnership with IO Interactive, which will publish the game. Thus, the title should be available for purchase like any other game.
MindsEye: worrying gameplay a month before the game's release
Most recent update:
Update - May 22, 2025: Less than three weeks before the game's release, Build A Rocket Boy is getting active and sharing more and more gameplay teasers, mainly short videos of a few seconds, or even a minute. But, still no real gameplay presentation in good and due form. More than ever, communication is divisive and worrying.
The different sequences are not really convincing, in addition to that, we have a lot of passages that are reused with things seen and reviewed over several weeks and months in trailers and other videos, giving the impression that the studio does not have much to show us around its game which is due to arrive on June 10th.
The feedback is more and more mixed and questions the players who are starting to strongly dread the release of the game. In these new sequences shared a few hours ago, we see a game that seems rather nice graphically, but really dated in terms of technique and physics. A game clearly from 2010/2013 on the end of the PS3/Xbox 360 generation and the beginning of the PS4/Xbox One generation.
In any case, we should know very soon.
Update May 5, 2025:
While communication should accelerate for MindsEye, the studio Build A Rocket Boy shared, only on its Discord, a video with several MindsEye gameplay clips. And the feedback has been very negative with a game that seems extremely outdated technically. We see a game with very questionable physics (in terms of the characters) and strange driving with camera movements that do not seem to be up to scratch. Not enough to reassure us a month before the game's release.
