MindsEye: PlayStation begins refunding players

MindsEye: PlayStation begins refunding players

This week saw the release of MindsEye, the first project that was intended to be very ambitious from Build A Rocket Boy, the studio of Leslie Benzies (former producer of the GTA license and former president of the Rockstar North studio between 2001 and 2016). MindsEye was supposed to be a very nice collaboration between this young studio and IO Interactive (Hitman, 007: First Light).

Unfortunately, for the past few months, the game has been mired in controversy and controversy, notably due to the studio's management and deplorable communication from Build A Rocket Boy. Between the lies, the defamation, the drama, the developers' working conditions, and the press boycott, the release of MindsEye didn't bode well. Our review, available since yesterday afternoon, with a score of 4/10, allowed us to understand the extent of the damage. But today, it goes further since PlayStation is starting to refund players.

Refund, upcoming patch, studio apology...

MindsEye: PlayStation begins refunding players

Since the game's release on Tuesday, things have been getting worse hour by hour for Build A Rocket Boy. Almost making us forget all the drama before the game's release. Faced with the armada of bugs and crashes, the studio canceled several commercial operations with streamers. More and more players who pre-ordered the game are complaining on social media.

In a rare and almost unprecedented move since the release of CyberPunk 2077, PlayStation is starting to refund players, as one of the users on Reddit reports, explaining that he filed a claim for false advertising, accusing Build A Rocket Boy for promising a 60 FPS game on PS5 Pro. A mode still unavailable to this day.

Faced with such chaos, the studio was forced to react on Twitter/X via a press release to apologize and announce numerous upcoming patches for PC and consoles.

Dear community,
As always, thank you for your continued support and feedback.
Following our announcement yesterday, we would like to share with you the progress and actions taken within the studio over the past 24 hours.
We are deeply sorry that not all players were able to experience the game as we had envisioned it. Our priority is to optimize performance and stability so that every player, on every device, can enjoy an equally high-quality experience.
Our teams have been working tirelessly throughout the night to resolve many of these issues. We have now identified that the vast majority of crashes were caused by a memory leak, affecting approximately one in ten players. A hotfix has been developed to address this issue (as well as others reported by players), and we are working hard to deploy it tomorrow on PC, followed by consoles once it has been certified by PlayStation and Xbox.
We are fully committed to ensuring an optimal experience for all our players, and we will continue to provide frequent and transparent updates. We will do our best to respond to all your comments and feedback.
Thank you for playing MindsEye. Thank you for your understanding and continued support – it means the world to us. We are grateful and honored to have you on this journey with us.
The MindsEye Team
