While its American competitors are still gaining ground in the world of artificial intelligence with a series of announcements, the French company Mistral AI seems determined not to be beaten!
After recently announcing its Small 3.1 model, a subscription dedicated to professionals, and an API that allows users to create their own AI agents, the company has decided to go even further with two major announcements.
A billion dollar fundraising?
After raising $20 billion for xAI and $175 million for OpenAI in its fund for start-ups, it is now Mistral AI's turn to raise massive funds.
According to an article in Financial Times, the French company could raise a billion dollars by the end of the year, a mere trifle compared to its American competitors, but which could have a massive impact on its future.
Indeed, if this fundraising is confirmed, it would allow Mistral AI to be valued at 6 billion euros, a great performance for the company which counts BNP Paribas, Veolia, and AXA among its clients.
But if this announcement raises many questions, Mistral AI is also at the heart of many discussions with an announcement made this Tuesday, June 10...
Magistral, the first model of Mistral's reasoning
With the ambition to reason like a human would, according to the press release published on the Mistral website, Magistral is shaping up to be the company's most ambitious project.
Aware of the current limitations of its artificial intelligence, Mistral has developed its new model around the "chain-of-thought".
Concretely, this allows Mistral AI's new artificial intelligence model to break down its reasoning into several stages, just as a human would in their thinking.
For its launch, the company released two versions of its model, with Magistral Small in an open-source version, and Magistral Medium which remains aimed at professionals.
In terms of uses, the company claims that its model should be useful for finance, coding, or even legal research.
New features available
In addition to offering its new artificial intelligence model, Mistral AI took the opportunity to announce two new features.
"Think Mode" and "Flash Answers" should allow Mistral to respond 10 times faster than traditional responses, although the latter is currently reserved for paying users of the tool.
