MSI launches a 600 Hz gaming monitor designed for e-sports

After Acer and AOC, it's MSI's turn to join the very exclusive club of manufacturers offering a 600 Hz monitor. The new MPG 242R X60N is clearly aimed at an e-sports target, where every millisecond counts. This 24.1-inch model is based on a "Rapid" TN panel displaying a Full HD definition (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) and a response time of only 0.1 ms GtG (gray-to-gray). At this speed, ghosting effects are limited thanks to MPRT Sync technology, which improves the clarity of moving objects.

A screen designed for frag pros

Fluidity is at the heart of the product: the 600 Hz refresh rate allows the interval between two images to be divided by ten compared to a 60 Hz screen, which considerably improves on-screen responsiveness. Of course, to take full advantage of this frequency, you need a PC capable of maintaining a very high frame rate - which requires a powerful graphics card and precisely configured games.

On the image side, MSI has paid attention to the colorimetry aspect despite the use of a TN panel. The MPG 242R X60N claims 93% coverage of the DCI-P3 spectrum and 119% of sRGB, which makes it usable in contexts other than pure competitive FPS. It is also VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified, guaranteeing peak brightness of up to 500 nits in HDR mode.

The connectivity is comprehensive and up-to-date: an HDMI 2.1 port, a DisplayPort 1.4a, three USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-B 2.0 port, and most importantly, a USB-C port capable of transmitting the image while charging a laptop up to 98W. The screen also includes a KVM switch for controlling multiple machines with a single keyboard and mouse, and a Gaming Intelligence application that uses artificial intelligence functions (automatic targeting, visibility improvement, etc.).

MSI has not yet announced a price or launch date for this model. But comparable models, such as the BenQ Zowie XL2586X+, are priced around $1,000. At the other end of the spectrum, some brands like ASRock already offer 500Hz monitors for under $300. It remains to be seen where MSI will choose to position itself with this MPG 242R X60N.

In any case, this monitor is aimed at a niche of gamers looking for a technical advantage in competitive games, especially fast-paced FPS games. More casual gamers or those who prioritize image quality over raw speed will probably give this one a miss.
