A single-player Splatoon Raiders game is currently in development, while a major update for Splatoon 3 is coming a few days after the Switch 2.
We've barely had time to publish our review of the Nintendo Switch 2 before the publisher and manufacturer announces some great new features to come for the Splatoon franchise, a sure bet from Big N for ten years. The most important of these is the officialization of a first spin-off for the series. This one is called Splatoon Raiders and does not include any multiplayer component. It is therefore a 100% single-player game, something never seen before for the franchise.
Nintendo is trying to capitalize on the success of Splatoon to diversify the saga and this is hardly surprising. Splatoon 3 already introduced a more in-depth single-player mode than its predecessors, and it was only a matter of time before we saw a game entirely dedicated to it. No release date or even window has been announced yet, but we do know that the title will only be released on Switch 2, and not on the first generation.
Splatoon 3 celebrates Switch 2 with an update
For the developers, leaving out multiplayer will also be an opportunity to expand the lore of the universe they have created and to offer players a story and narrative that we hope is worthy of the name. For now, we know that the members of the Tridenfer group will be the main protagonists. Their adventures will take them to a new archipelago and we shouldn't see Splash City in this game.
Splatoon 3 isn't abandoned, however. Update 10.0.0 will be available from June 12, 2025. It brings graphical and performance improvements to Switch 2, cross-play between Switch 1 and Switch 2, and new content. The Turbot Passage completes the map selection and will be an opportunity to rekindle the nostalgia of players of the first Splatoon on Wii U.
This new version of the game also introduces new badges and new weapons. Weapon class scores increase, and a new feature, Arsenal Power, indicates which weapon you are most effective with, in addition to being used for matchmaking.
