Nintendo has good news for its subscribers… on Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on June 5th, and it won't be coming alone. In addition to the games and other accessories that will be available for sale, console owners will be able to enjoy a few additional features. We learned today that an update will expand the catalog of Nintendo 64 games available via the Switch Online service.

Three new options will be supported: rewind, which allows you to rewind an action; the application of a CRT filter to recreate the visual appearance of tube televisions; and finally, full customization of the controls.

The rewind function and the CRT filter, already available for NES and SNES games in the Switch Online catalog, will be exclusive to the Switch 2 for the N64. The current Switch, meanwhile, will have to make do with the (admittedly useful) addition of control customization. After 30 years of loyal service, games are being updated with very practical features for those looking for ease. But you still have to be able to afford them.

Released in 2021, the N64 library has long been one of the selling points of the Switch Online + Expansion Pack. While this offer has allowed fans to rediscover classics like Super Mario 64 or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, it is reserved for a category of players who have the time to explore this catalog. With the arrival of the Switch 2, Nintendo seems to want to revive interest in its subscription, while creating a clear transition between console generations.

Two subscriptions at your disposal

As a reminder, the Nintendo Switch Online subscription allows you to play online and access certain retro NES and SNES games, in addition to other benefits. It is available at a price of €19.99 per year for an individual account, and €34.99 per year for a family account.

For double the price, or €39.99 or €69.99, you can access the additional pack, which allows you to play N64 and Mega Drive games on your Switch, and access new additional content (DLC in Animal Crossing and Remastered Track Pass on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe). The Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be available at no additional cost to players who own the original versions of the games, as well as an active Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscription.
