Several internet users are reporting a worrying problem with their newly purchased Nintendo Switch 2. Be careful when unboxing yours, it could happen to you too.
It's already been two weeks since Nintendo's Switch 2 was released. Some of you have had it since day one and have already unlocked almost all of the characters in Mario Kart World. Others have just received their long-awaited copy. This is a chance to enjoy opening the box, hoping not to notice any damage like those players who ended up with two holes in the screen of their brand-new Switch 2. In theory, you shouldn't see anything unusual, unless you're unlucky.
This is what happened to several people who shared their misfortune on social media. They didn't get a hole in the screen, but another, much more annoying problem. Each time, the situation is the same: the Switch 2 is new, the box has not been opened and no player mentions anything that suggests the package was damaged. It is therefore reasonable to assume that the problem is not due to mishandling of the latter.
Check your Switch 2 carefully once unpacked, it may have a worrying defect
The story of “tombyt3” on Reddit sums it up nicely: “I just received my brand new Switch 2 today and I noticed that the back panel is slightly bulging.” It’s hard to see in the photos, but the user contacted Nintendo, who confirmed that something was wrong. The manufacturer believes it’s a “swollen battery” and has opened an investigation.
The same goes for a Japanese player who posted pictures on X (Twitter). The swelling is located in roughly the same place, the area where the Switch 2's battery is located. It's very surprising that this happens on a new device. Batteries can start to swell, but usually after many years of use. We encourage you to check your console and, if you feel/see anything, turn off the Switch 2 immediately to avoid any risk of fire. Then contact Nintendo customer service, who will advise you on the next steps.
