Nintendo Switch 2 reportedly has a major problem just days after its release

Despite all the possible and imaginable internal testing, new machines are never immune to problems once in the hands of consumers. We are thinking in particular of the infamous "red circle of death" of the Xbox 360 which almost brought down Microsoft's gaming branch. To a certain extent, some owners of a Nintendo Switch 2, despite being released worldwide on June 5, 2025, have already suffered a hardware problem.

Is it already heating up for the Nintendo Switch 2?

The Nintendo Switch 2 seems well on its way to experiencing an equivalent, if not even more prestigious, journey than its illustrious big sister, one of the best-selling consoles in history, with 3.5 million copies sold four days after its launch. Unfortunately, some people have had a very unpleasant surprise as soon as they opened the box for their newly acquired console. More perniciously, others are already starting to notice hardware problems with their model.

On social networks like Reddit or X.com, several examples of such problems relating to the Nintendo Switch 2 are starting to emerge. Some owners of the machine are reporting that their copy has a back panel that is starting to dislodge. This phenomenon is not new and affects many smartphones, and is said to be due to the swelling of the lithium-ion battery. This would be the case according to a response from Nintendo's after-sales service after learning of the situation. Some people didn't even have time to break in their Nintendo Switch 2 and reported a similar problem as soon as the console was taken out of its box.

A swollen battery problem is unfortunately not an exceptional phenomenon, but generally occurs after several years of use. That being said, the Nintendo Switch 2's battery isn't actually located where the back panel is dislodged. This would therefore be a design issue, which is unfortunately quite common when it comes to the mass launch of a new product. So, for all intents and purposes, feel free to report any issues you encounter with your machine, but we're keeping our fingers crossed that there won't be any for a long time.
