One Piece: Imu reserves this terrible fate for the greatest heroes of the manga

A major battle is looming in the upcoming chapters of One Piece. Indeed, the confrontation between the heroes and Imu is approaching, and it could turn everything upside down. Even though it hasn't even begun yet, we can already imagine the worst, especially for the manga's greatest heroes: the giants. However, when we talk about the "worst," it's not what you think...

Giants in One Piece

One Piece features many races, but one of the most important remains the giants. The arrival of the Mugiwara on Elbaf has allowed us to learn more about the history of the world. We think in particular of the Haley, ancient religious texts, or even the frescoes that Franky was able to contemplate. Beyond the lore, the giants also intrigue for their beliefs and what they represent.

For the creation of the giants and the island of Elbaf, Eiichiro Oda was inspired by Norse mythology. Everything, from their clothing to their names, including the Adam's tree, bears its mark. This influence is also reflected in their character and way of life. The giants are a warrior people, as we saw during our first meeting with Dorry and Brogy. But behind this thirst for battle, they are very welcoming and deeply attached to their homeland. That's why what Imu is doing to them is worse than eliminating them.

Imu's Terrible Design

In chapters 1150 and 1151, Imu transformed the giants into demons. Immortal and overpowered, they march on Elbaf like puppets, with the mission of taking Yarle's life... and much worse. Imu has the power to annihilate them, but prefers to force them to destroy the island they swore to protect. Those who would have been honored to die in battle are now forced to live by reducing everything they had built to ashes.

Eliminating his opponents is Imu's goal, but it's not the only one. One Piece has shown us over the years: history tends to be erased. We think, of course, of the Forgotten Century or the destruction of Ohara Island. With Elbaf, Imu seems to be following the same pattern. Since the giants have not rallied to his cause, he seeks to erase their entire history, and even by controlling them. What they suffer is therefore much more cruel than death. Yet, there may still be one character capable of saving them.

Loki, Elbaf's Hero

Since his introduction, Loki has been portrayed as a criminal who killed King Harald, his own father. Locked away in the underworld, he is feared and rejected by his peers. However, the final chapters suggest he may be innocent. It is indeed possible that Harald was controlled by Imu, just like Dorry and Brogy, forcing Loki to eliminate him. The warrior will have to prove his innocence, however, and he could do so by saving Elbaf.

The end of chapter 1151 shows a Loki determined to take part in the fight against Imu. This is the perfect opportunity for him to prove to his people, and especially to his brother Hajrudin, that he is innocent. Unfortunately, this will likely not be without loss. Taking a life may be the only way to break the curse, which means many giants are likely to die. Dorry and Brogy come to mind, of course, but Loki himself could lose his life. In a heroic act, he could break the bond that binds them by sacrificing himself. This remains only a hypothesis, but there is no doubt that Loki will play a major role in the coming battle.
