PS Plus Extra: the latest bonus game is finally available, it's just ultra cult!

It had to happen at some point: it's time to discover the latest bonus game offered to PS Plus Extra subscribers during the famous Days of Play. And the icing on the cake is that it's a title that's more cult than ever. Clearly a piece of video game history.

A totally cult game for PS Plus Extra subscribers

On June 10, a video game legend is joining the PS Plus Extra service: Grand Theft Auto 3. Initially released in 2001, GTA 3 marked a major turning point in the history of video games. The first 3D installment in the cult series, it laid the foundations for what we know today as the "modern open world" genre. Total freedom in a vibrant city, varied missions, urban atmosphere, and social satire: everything that makes up GTA's DNA was already there. Even if technically dated, the game remains a must-have for those who want to discover, or rediscover, the origins of the phenomenon.

It should be noted, however, that the version offered today on PS Plus Extra is not the original, but the Definitive Edition, released in 2021 in a trilogy remastered by Rockstar. It offers improved graphics, a smoother interface, and reworked gameplay, while retaining the charm and mechanics of the time. This edition received a mixed reception upon its release, with several updates correcting the most glaring flaws. Now, it's even more qualitative.

A real phenomenon

An excellent addition for the PS Plus Extra, clearly. Because beyond its importance in the history of video games, GTA 3 is above all an inimitable atmosphere. Liberty City is dirty, dark, full of tension, and each district has its own character. You play as Claude, a character who never speaks, but who finds himself caught up in the troubles of the entire local underworld. And even without a word, the story works, carried by striking characters and cutscenes that did the job at the time.
