Expected next year to mark the 30th anniversary of Capcom's legendary franchise, Resident Evil 9 Requiem was the final announcement at the Summer Game Fest 2025 opening ceremony, to an excited ovation from the audience, both in Los Angeles and around the world. We then shared our thoughts after getting a behind-closed-doors preview of this new installment. Capcom has also expanded the franchise's official website, and is clearly not afraid to promote its next major installment.
Resident Evil 9 Requiem, or even Revolution of Horror?
After the very convincing reinterpretation of the franchise in FPS view with Resident Evil 7, Requiem promises to be, from what we've seen, an amalgamation of the best of both worlds, with on the one hand a first-person view, but also a third-person view, as well as a priori certain passages with fixed camera angles like at its genesis. Beyond that, this Resident Evil 9 Requiem will plunge us back into the horror of Raccoon City, several decades after the traumatic events of the first three games.
While we eagerly await more, the official website of Resident Evil 9 Requiem has been filled with a hard-hitting communication from Capcom. Right from the header, we can read, for example: "Requiem for the dead. Nightmare for the living." The site also prepares players to "escape death in a petrifying experience that will chill you to the bone." The Japanese studio even goes so far as to say that Resident Evil 9 will mark "a new era of survival horror." This is thanks in particular to the "technological advances" of a top-notch RE Engine, "rich characters" and a gameplay that is "more immersive than ever."
So many keywords that clearly send shivers of fear and pleasure down the spines of horror lovers, and even more so for fans of the legendary franchise. While we wait to see what it's really like, notably via a playable demo at Gamescom 2025 in August, and probably soon after for everyone else, we won't have to wait too long, as Resident Evil 9 Requiem will be released on February 27, 2026, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
