Slowly, the noose is tightening around the new generation. All the rumors seem to indicate that Sony and Microsoft are preparing the arrival of their new consoles for the end of 2027. So, logically, this is happening internally and the companies are quietly starting to hint.
At the end of 2024, on the occasion of PlayStation's 30th anniversary, Sony was already talking about the next console, specifying that they were in no rush and that the PS5 Pro would neither advance nor delay the company's plans for the next PlayStation. Today, during an interview with the media VideoGamesChronicles, the Japanese company discussed its future and the goal of not betting everything on the Cloud.
The PS6: a console that will remain traditional
The end of consoles? It's not happening anytime soon for PlayStation. As we know, the PS6 is in the works, and several rumors suggest that Sony is considering a portable solution. Will it be a hybrid console? Or two different machines? For the moment, it's too early to confirm anything. In any case, Sony does not intend to do away with physical gaming and will not opt for 100% Cloud Gaming. During an interview with VGC, Hideaki Nishino, the new CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, returned to the issue of Cloud Gaming and the rise of this technology. Nishino acknowledges that Sony now has several generations where Cloud Gaming has continued to grow, giving them a certain expertise. On the other hand, the CEO of SIE confirms that players remain very attached to their physical machine and that it is for this reason that the future of PlayStation will once again pass through there.
Hideaki Nishino does not go into details, but confirms that "the future of the platform" is at the center of their concerns and that a physical machine, like the PS5 and the PS5 Pro will remain the priorities, although Sony will of course explore new ways of playing video games to reach even more players.
