To everyone's surprise, Google has updated its Snapseed photo editing app on iOS, having not touched it since 2021. It's moving to version 3.0 with some big changes.
Google definitely has an ambiguous relationship with its services. When the company launches a new mobile app, for example, it's not uncommon for it to end up removing it a few years later. Either because its features are integrated into another, more popular program, or because very few people ultimately use it. And sometimes, Google lets an app live on its own, taking little or no care of it. Snapseed on iOS is the perfect example.
Originally, the photo editing app was exclusive to Apple's mobile system. Google bought it in 2012, and an Android version arrived quickly. On iOS, updates are slowly becoming less frequent, so much so that the last one notable enough to be mentioned dates back to 2021 (the integration of dark mode). So it was a big surprise for users when they saw that version 3.0 of Snapseed was available on their iPhone.
Snapseed is moving to version 3.0 on iOS and is full of new features
“You might notice a few new features,” the Snapseed team tells us on the App Store. A big understatement when you see everything that has changed. The app icon for starters, but especially its interface.
Your edited photos are now displayed in a grid and the “+” button gives access to the different options. These are grouped into 3 categories: Style for filters, Favorites for the tools you use most often or that you have defined as such, and Tools for all those offered by the application.
Google is not finished with Snapseed on iOS since a teaser indicates that other new features will arrive, without further details. You don't have an iPhone? Then you will have to be patient: for the moment, there is no indication when this redesign will arrive on Android, if it ever arrives. This does not prevent Snapseed from being one of the Google applications that you absolutely must try on your Android smartphone.
