The Spotify audio streaming platform is getting an interesting feature that makes it more convenient to use. Especially if you're the type of person who forgets to prepare your music before a release.
This time, there's no bad news to announce, like the price increase for all Spotify subscription plans. It's about something useful. If you've subscribed to the audio streaming platform's Premium offering, you know you can download your playlists, podcasts, and more to your devices. Going on a hike somewhere with poor signal strength? Your music will still accompany you offline.
Now imagine you want to leave your smartphone at home and only take a smartwatch. No problem, you can download from your smartwatch too. But when you get to your starting point, you realize you completely forgot to start it. This frustrating situation will soon be a thing of the past with what Spotify has to offer.
Spotify adds an option that will please the forgetful
“Premium users can now start downloads from their phone to desktop computers, tablets, and Galaxy Watch and Wear OS smartwatches,” Spotify explains. This is actually a generalization of an option already available, but only compatible with Apple Watches. On your smartphone, choose Download to other devices and the playlist will arrive on your Pixel Watch (for example) even if you are not near the device in question.
In addition, there is better download management in general. When you're on a playlist page in the Spotify app, tap the new Manage Downloads button to see which devices it's already downloaded to.
You can also delete the content in question remotely from your mobile device, and receive a notification when you're approaching the 5-device limit that Spotify imposes for downloads. These new features are rolling out now, but you may have to wait several weeks to see them on your home screen.
