As we eagerly await the release of season 2 of Ahsoka, Anakin Skywalker's former apprentice appears for the first time as a Force ghost. But does this mean the Togruta is dead in the Star Wars canon?
What happened to Ahsoka during the Disney postlogy?
Among all the Star Wars projects currently in development (and there are a lot of them), there is season 2 of Ahsoka. Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan will return to service by 2026 at the earliest. We recall that she and Sabine Wren are stuck on Peridea, a planet located outside the galaxy that is difficult to enter and exit. Far from it. Filled with a mystical force, this world between worlds still has many secrets that our duo intends to discover.
The timeline of the character played on screen by Rosario Dawson may seem unclear to some. And for good reason, although they are interconnected, the myriad of projects broadcast do not follow chronological order, and with the slew of stories in which the characters intersect, it is difficult to see clearly. Her appearance in the series The Mandalorianwhose events are set between Star Wars: Rebels and its eponymous series- is evocative of this chronological blur.
Ahsoka as a Force ghost, is the Jedi dead?
In the Star Wars canon, her story ends with her time on Peridea, nine years after the Battle of Yavin, but 28 years before the rise of the First Order. Which makes you wonder what happened to the Togruta, since she doesn't appear, and isn't mentioned in the Disney postology.
The latest comic on The Rise of Skywalker, published on June 11, may have left some clues about her fate. The fifth and final issue of Marvel's adaptation of the final film in the trilogy about Rey and the Skywalker legacy, the comic retraces the Battle of Exegol and the confrontation between Rey and Palpatine (whom we recall is her grandfather).
The opportunity to discover certain extended scenes not shown in J.J. Abrams' film. In a pure spirit of fan service, Marvel reveals Rey's full powers, transmitted thanks to the Force of all the previously deceased Jedi. Then appear behind her the Force ghosts of Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinne, Luke and Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu, as well as the members of the Order eliminated during Order 66 (in the film, we only hear the voices of some). If we look closely, we can see another familiar face sporting an orange color, scattered under a hood releasing a tentacle. Her white saber leaves no doubt.
So, does Ahsoka's Force ghost mean the death of the character? A topic that has animated the Star Wars community for several years. After all, the narrative hole left by Star Wars leads to a whole bunch of theories. But Dave Filoni - the character's creator - has confirmed that Ahsoka has never died in Star Wars canon. In a 2020 interview - before the comics were released - the creator of Rebels and The Mandalorian recalled that Luke spoke to Leia through the Force, just as Darth Vader spoke to his son in The Empire Strikes Back. It's also suggested that Yoda mastered the art of Force ghosting when Obi-Wan went into exile on Tatooine. He would have learned to communicate with Qui-Gon in this way, and seems to be the link between the old master and his apprentice.
Ahsoka's fate is very uncertain before season 2 of her eponymous series. Perhaps the next episodes will allow us to learn more about her fate. Recently, we learned that Hayden Christensen would be making his return in Anakin Skywalker's specter. New: Admiral Ackbar (the famous line "It's a trap") from the first trilogy will be in the game. The late Ray Stevenson will be replaced by former Game of Thrones sleuth Rory McCann as Baylan Skoll.
