Surprise, Google rolls out a major Snapseed update on the iPhone

Snapseed users on the iPhone must have been in for a big surprise. Unexpectedly, Google has just rolled out version 3.0 of its photo editing app to the App Store. This major update, rolled out on the iPhone, introduces a brand new interface. The last real update to Snapseed on the iPhone dates back to 2021, with Google having since released only minor bug fixes.

Snapseed modernizes its icon and interface

With this version 3.0, Google is giving Snapseed a brand new icon, but above all, a completely revamped interface. Now, when you open the app, it displays the latest photos you've edited on a grid. The + button, located at the bottom of the screen, is used to import a new photo to edit. It also unveils the new, more modern interface of the workspace.

Snapseed now offers three tabs. The first, Style, gives access to filters, the second, Favorites, groups the most commonly used editing tools. Note that you can, if you wish, customize Favorites to add the tools of your choice. The third and final tab, Tools, provides access to all of the application's editing tools.

This Tools section is itself divided into several sections. The first, Adjust and Fix, groups together the basic editing tools that will allow you to adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, etc. It is also from here that you can play with curves, manage the white balance, or even add a focus or vignetting effect.

The second section, Retouch and Transform, includes a selective retouching tool and gives access to other modules: brush, correction, portrait, cropping, etc.
The third category of tools, Style, brings together all the predefined filters that Snapseed offers, with the possibility, for each of them, to adjust the settings in place.

Finally, the fourth and last category of tools, Create, allows you to superimpose two images and modify various parameters, add a frame to your image, or even apply a stylized text box.

Coming soon to Android?

Applying changes is still done the same way, by sliding your finger from left to right, but you can also use a new adjustment wheel. Similarly, sliding your finger from bottom to top, and vice versa, still allows you to move from one setting to another in some tools.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, it is likely that this major Snapseed update will also be rolled out to Android in the coming days.
