Switch 2 shows wrong remaining battery percentage, how to fix?

Some Switch 2 owners have noticed a rather annoying bug on their console. The device displays the incorrect remaining battery percentage, making it impossible to know approximately how much battery life it has left. In most cases, the Switch 2 displays a capacity that is actually lower than the actual capacity.

Nintendo acknowledges the issue on a support and troubleshooting page on its official website, dedicated to the Switch 2. One of the scenarios described by the manufacturer is the following: “For example, you can continue to use your Nintendo Switch 2 console for a few hours even if the charge indicator shows that the battery is almost discharged.”.

What to do if the Switch 2 battery indicator is buggy?

While waiting for a possible update to resolve this issue, Big N provides the steps to follow when the displayed battery life does not match the actual remaining battery life:

  • Make sure you are using an AC adapter that is powerful enough to charge your console. The Nintendo Switch AC adapter (model HAC-002) allows you to charge the Nintendo Switch 2 directly on the console. Due to power differences, it will not charge the Nintendo Switch 2 while docked.
  • Make sure your console has the latest system update.
  • Turn off the console.
  • Press and hold the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons, then press the power button once to turn on the system.
  • Press and hold the volume down buttons until the recovery mode menu appears. Entering this menu should reset the battery level indicator.
  • Turn off the console again by pressing and holding the power button until it turns off.
  • Turn the console back on and monitor the situation.

This should recalibrate the battery level indicator. If not, repeat the process a few times. If it still doesn't work, you'll need to send your Switch 2 in for repair.
