Tesla finally updates its Model S and X, but some choices are causing some concern

Tesla has just unveiled a new version of its two high-end models. However, the reactions have been mixed. On social media, criticism is mounting, and some are even talking about regression.

Tesla finally updates its Model S and X, but some choices are causing some concern

The Model S and the Model X have long been the showcases of Tesla expertise. But for some time now, these two models have been suffering in the face of the much more popular Model 3 and the new Model Y. The American manufacturer is offering a new update for 2026, intended to revive interest in these premium vehicles. However, the feedback is far from enthusiastic. As we've seen with other products from the manufacturer recently, Internet users are not holding back from expressing their frustration, particularly in the official posts of the brand's X account. The manufacturer has, however, incorporated some visible improvements. Tesla promises better driving comfort thanks to a reworked suspension and new silent blocks. Soundproofing is also improved with an active noise reduction system. On board, passengers now benefit from customizable multi-color ambient lighting, visible on the dashboard, doors, and center console. A new exterior color, Frost Blue, is also available. The Model X gains slightly in cargo volume, reaching 2,675 liters.

Tesla increases the prices of the Model S and X without adding any real new features

The Model S now starts at $86,630 (around €81,000) with a range announced at 660 km. The Plaid version costs $101,630 (around €95,000) for 592 km, but loses in top speed, now limited to 240 km/h. It also gains 12 kg. The Model X starts at $91,630 (approximately €86,000) with a range of 566 km, and the Plaid version reaches $106,630 (approximately €100,000) for 539 km. It now weighs 83 kg more than before. All these models have a price increase of approximately $5,000 compared to previous versions.

Despite these improvements, many users point to a lack of innovation. The latest technologies seen on the Cybertruck, such as steer by wire or the 800 V battery, are not integrated. The once iconic “yoke” steering wheel is relegated to the status of a paid option at $1,000. To see the cosmetic changes in detail, the X account @SawyerMerritt shared a full thread with 4K photos of both models from all angles.
