The crazy Fast and Furious attraction becomes reality

Family-friendly speed freaks are in for a treat. After months of rumors and leaks, Universal Studios Hollywood is revealing new details this week about “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” its first-ever outdoor high-speed roller coaster inspired by the films of the same name.

It's specifically inspired by the iconic drift scenes popularized in Tokyo Drift (2006). The attraction aims to capture the adrenaline rush of urban racing on the edge of legality. To achieve this, Universal is banking on a technical innovation: vehicles capable of 360-degree rotation, giving passengers the sensation of controlled drifting while racing.

Planned for 2026, the attraction promises to be the fastest ever built in a Universal park, with a top speed announced at 72 miles per hour (approximately 115 km/h). In comparison, “Hollywood Drift” falls into the category of rivals some of the genre's benchmarks. For example, Red Force at PortAventura reaches 180 km/h in 5 seconds. At Universal Studios Japan, the Flying Dinosaur tops out at 100 km/h, while VelociCoaster in Florida reaches around 112 km/h. With its top speed, Hollywood Drift is slightly ahead of them, while introducing other intense mechanics.

Universal Studios tells us that the roller coaster will take advantage of the hilly topography of the park, located in an urbanized area of Los Angeles. Thanks to a natural descent of the terrain, the cars will reach their maximum speed on a 1250 meter course, including loops and accelerations. In addition to the circuit itself, the park is obviously focusing on an immersive themed setting to immerse visitors in the world of the film.

They will wait in a hangar evoking the garages of the saga, in an atmosphere faithful to the aesthetic of the films. One of the four vehicles has already been unveiled: a reproduction of Dominic Toretto's 1970 Dodge Charger. A wink that fans will not fail to have. Everything is shown on video for the very first time, as Universal Studios shares new and almost finished concept art.
