The Legend of Zelda: Nintendo has found its Zelda, and it's perfect

After conquering the video game industry, Nintendo is now tackling the film industry. After Super Mario Bros.: The Movie in 2023, the Japanese publisher will return in 2026 with a sequel, as well as a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, its cult franchise. Fans have been imagining the cast for years, and it looks like Nintendo has found its Princess Zelda.

Nintendo has reportedly found its Princess Zelda

In November 2023, Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto made a resounding announcement: a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is in development. A secret project that Miyamoto had been working on for several years was finally revealed, in collaboration with Avi Arad, iconic Marvel producer (X-Men, Iron Man, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk...). "It's Miyamoto. I've been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad, who has produced many successful films." Miyamoto explained at the time. "I asked Avi to produce this film with me, and we have now officially begun its development with Nintendo, who is heavily involved in the production. It will take some time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it."

For any project related to its cult franchises (excluding Pokémon), Nintendo leaves nothing to chance. The film will remain in development as long as necessary, with the Japanese giant not wanting to mess up or tarnish its reputation. It's therefore not surprising to see that this live-action film The Legend of Zelda is still in the making, despite having been in the pipeline for years. However, as its development progresses, rumors will multiply. While fans have been imagining the cast since the film was made official, insider Daniel RPK has just shared some juicy information: the identity of the possible interpreter of Princess Zelda.

And according to Daniel Richtman, it's Hunter Schafer (Euphoria, Hunger Games, the upcoming Blade Runner 2099 series from Amazon) who is being considered by Nintendo to play Princess Zelda. An idea that would hit the mark, as Hunter Schafer's name is regularly brought up by fans of the franchise. Has Nintendo listened to Internet users? It's possible. Nevertheless, Hunter Schafer, thanks in particular to her resemblance to the character, her features considered elven, and her acting, could perfectly embody the princess.

Especially since in 2023, after the announcement of the project and faced with regular requests from Internet users, Hunter Schafer was interviewed by Variety during the London premiere of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Serpent and the Songbird, confirming that she had seen the tweets from fans circulating on social networks, and that she was excited about the role: "It would be really cool. Personally, I love the game. I played it when I was a kid and I still play it today. Who knows? It would be really cool." An ideal casting then, hoping that the final result lives up to the fans' expectations.
