The next game in the Assassin's Creed franchise is making waves long before its release with new leaks. We're learning a little more about its story and the character we'll play.

The next Assassin's Creed won't be like the others if these leaks are to be believed

Despite Assassin's Creed Shadows being talked about more for the controversies it generated than for its qualities, Ubisoft has no intention of abandoning the franchise. We've known for almost 3 years that the next installment is in the works.

Its code name: Hexe, a German word that translates to "witch" in our country. Since its announcement, the only thing fans have had to sink their teeth into is a 30-second trailer whose only interest lies in the image used to illustrate this article.

The well-known symbol of Assassin's Creed is made of pieces of branches and suspended above an inverted pentagram, a symbol associated with the occult. The latter includes inscriptions which, when deciphered, read in English “We work in the night to serve the light” and “Mephisto avenges the house/family”. The first line is spoken by Ezio in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, the second refers to a demon from German folklore.

Assassin's Creed Hexe wants to offer something different

Today, leaker BunneyTheVillain claims that “Assassin's Creed Hexe will have a dark and haunting tone. At the beginning, Elsa seeks revenge for her mother, who was executed as a witch during the witch trials.”

If he's telling the truth, we'll play as a female protagonist named Elsa, as is possible in Shadows, Odyssey, Valhalla, or Syndicate. At this point, it is unclear whether or not we will be able to alternate with a male character.

The "dark tone" fits with the clues that the next installment will be set in early 17th-century Germany where witch hunts are in full swing. Ubisoft would therefore be taking a direction quite far from previous titles, more colorful and "optimistic" than the setting proposed here.

In interviews, members of the studio have stated that Assassin's Creed Hexe will be very different, notably by abandoning the RPG elements characteristic of the last installments of the franchise. We will of course have to wait for the game's release to know for sure. The latest rumors point to an arrival in 2027.
