MagSafe has become a must-have feature of the iPhone, and Google could offer its own magnetic solution very soon with its Pixel 10, which would be Qi 2.2 compatible.

The Pixel 10 would be entitled to this popular iPhone feature

With its MagSafe magnet technology, Apple has brought a feature that users love to the iPhone. And while Android manufacturers have gotten into the habit of copying what Apple does (and vice versa), they have strangely never really bothered to adopt this type of function.

However, the Qi2 protocol from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) integrates the magnetic effect. Open, it can be used by all manufacturers. We thought that Samsung would finally take the plunge with its Galaxy S25, but the smartphone is not natively compatible with this technology: it requires a special case. It's finally Google that could get serious about it with its next models.

Will the Pixel 10 and iPhone 17 be Qi 2.2 compatible?

Android Authority explains that it has had access to credible marketing documents, which would prove that Google is developing Qi 2 magnetic accessories for its Pixel 10. The media explains that the ecosystem would be called Pixelsnap and that at least three accessories are planned: a charger (Pixelsnap Charger), a charger with a stand (Pixelsnap Charger with Stand) and a ring stand (Pixelsnap Ring Stand).

We also learn that the Google wireless charger will be Qi 2.2 and MPP (Magnetic Power Profile) compatible. This last mention refers to the magnet alignment technology that allows you to place your smartphone more optimally on the charger for a more efficient charge. The product will reportedly be available in two colors: black and off-white.

According to Android Authority, the Pixel 10 will be Qi 2.2 compatible thanks to a ConvenientPower CPS4041 control chip. The Qi 2.2 standard theoretically supports wireless charging power up to 50W, but knowing Google, which is conservative when it comes to charging speeds, it's very likely that we won't reach this threshold. In any case, it's interesting to note that the company has taken up the subject of magnetism, which also allows you to stick accessories to the back of your smartphone. Later this year, the iPhone 17 could also upgrade to Qi 2.2.
