Since its release on June 5, the Switch 2 has been breaking all records. In four days, the hybrid console sold 3.5 million units worldwide, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever to launch, according to internal figures from the manufacturer.
Unprecedented for a console
Daniel Ahmad, research director at Niko Partner, goes even further: the Switch 2 is the fastest-selling console in history, regardless of brand or era. As a reminder, the PS2 had reached one million units in 10 days, the PS4 2.1 million in two weeks.
"The fans' enthusiasm was palpable during the midnight openings organized by our distribution partners," rejoices Philippe Lavoué, general manager of Nintendo France. No one really doubted that the Switch 2 would be a hit: after all, the console isn't starting from scratch!
The Switch 2 is indeed building on the approximately 150 million Switch 1s already sold, and not all hardcore fans have been served yet. Nintendo is still sending invitations to everyone who had pre-ordered a Switch 2 on the store. The hardest part will come later, in a few months, when they will have to convince the general public of the need to buy the console.
