The Witcher 3 Makes a Huge Surprise Announcement for Everyone

The Witcher 3 Makes a Huge Surprise Announcement for Everyone

It was indeed on May 18, 2015, that The Witcher 3 was released and would shake up the (open) world of the RPG genre. CD Projekt RED had spoiled us with a true timeless masterpiece, despite gameplay that wasn't unanimously acclaimed. In 2022, it received a facelift with the Complete Edition on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series, in order to fully exploit more modern technologies. Last year, it finally received full mod support thanks to REDKit, but only on PC. A year later, the Polish studio had a final gift for its absolute GOTY 2015 winner, as well as for witchers of all stripes.

A superb birthday present for The Witcher 3 and all its players

While waiting for The Witcher 4, which shouldn't arrive until 2027/2028 at the earliest, and Cyberpunk 2 about two years later, CD Projekt RED hasn't forgotten the game that propelled it to the top in 2015: The Witcher 3. Two weeks after officially celebrating its tenth anniversary, the Polish studio has made a big announcement. In a dedicated blog post on the franchise's official website, it has announced that a final patch will soon arrive for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series versions of its masterpiece.

This brand new patch, 10 years after the release of The Witcher 3, will definitely change its face on the platforms concerned, since it will add nothing less than cross-platform support for mods. Until now a PC exclusive, mods can now also be created for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. CD Projekt RED specifies that this will be done via mod.io. Note that a mod.io account will be required to take advantage of this feature, which will therefore allow the game's mod library to be harmonized as much as possible for the platforms concerned.

For now, there is no question of mod support on Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, but this could happen at a later date. We will also have to wait for a more precise date for the deployment of this final patch for The Witcher 3. CD Projekt RED indicates that it will arrive "later this year", without further details. We will of course not fail to tell you more about it in due course.
