Assassin's Creed Shadows Gets Tons of New Features and Free DLC

Deployed this week, Assassin's Creed Shadows update 1.0.5 brought many welcome changes to Ubisoft's latest major title, including major improvements to parkour and new features for Photo Mode. It also introduced several free contents, including a DLC previously accessible only to those who had pre-ordered the game. Let's slip into the shadows to see it all up close.

A surge of generosity in the feudal Japan of Assassin's Creed Shadows

In addition to the gameplay improvements, new features, and fixes expected in its 1.0.5 update, Assassin's Creed Shadows has also been stocked with various free contents. Among the most notable is the "Thrown to the Dogs" quest. As a reminder, this was a DLC quest that was previously only accessible if you pre-ordered the game. Now, anyone can discover it for free. To begin it, you'll need to go to the Tennoji Temple as Naoe or Yasuke, after completing the "From Spark to Flame" quest.

This DLC isn't the only one to be made available for free on Assassin's Creed Shadows as part of update 1.0.5. Other free content is also joining the party. We notably have the event in collaboration with Dead by Daylight, which again takes the form of a quest that can be started from a hideout after unlocking Yasuke. Completing it will reward you with a pendant and a banner.

The latest free content added by Assassin's Creed Shadows update 1.0.5, and not the least: decorative objects inspired by the excellent 2024 indie gem Balatro. More specifically, this takes the form of a pendant for Naoe, and an amulet for Yasuke. Both are under the name "Winning Hand," and take on the characteristic style of the cards from the PlayStation phenomenon.

There's plenty to keep you busy in feudal Japan with Naoe and Yasuke while you wait for the game's first major DLC, Awaji Hunt, which is expected to arrive in September, likely with another major update to go with it.
