It's a breakthrough no one anticipated. A new Android smartphone promises to be the first to work with the Apple Watch. And that's not the only surprise it has in store.
The Apple Watch has always been confined to the Apple ecosystem. No Android smartphone offers native compatibility with the smartwatch. This situation limits cross-use between the two platforms. But this could change this summer, with a new initiative in the mobile world.
The Vivo X Fold 5, the Chinese manufacturer's upcoming folding smartphone, aims to be the first Android model to fully interact with Apple products. Compatibility with the Apple Watch was confirmed by Han Bo Xiao, product manager at Vivo, on the Chinese social network Weibo. The phone will also be able to work with iPhones, MacBooks and sync data via iCloud.
The Vivo X Fold 5 will manage calls, messages and health data from the Apple Watch
This new smartphone, which is expected to be released in July, will allow you to receive calls and messages from an Apple Watch, even if it does not contain a SIM card. Health data will be synced with Vivo Health, the brand's dedicated app. It will also be possible to reply to iPhone messages from the Vivo X Fold 5. Photos, notes, and other content will be shared via iCloud between the two devices.
The X Fold 5 will also offer a screen extension for MacBooks, like an iPad. On the display side, it will have an LTPO AMOLED screen with adaptive rate and high-frequency PWM dimming. Its maximum brightness will reach 4500 nits, well above the 2400 nits of the Galaxy S25 Ultra in automatic mode, or 700 nits in manual mode.
The manufacturer also highlights the thinness and weight of the device. He promises that the X Fold 5 will be the world's lightest full-size foldable smartphone, even lighter than the X Fold 3, which weighed 219 grams. For comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 weighs 239 grams. Despite this lightness, the battery will reach a capacity of 6000 mAh, with 90W wired charging and 30W wireless charging. A rare balance between thinness, autonomy, and power.
