France is definitely on a roll in the video game industry. The Montpellier-based game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been breaking all records since its release, and it seems that France's success is showing no signs of slowing down. Meanwhile, a French license will soon make its big comeback, not with a sequel but with an unexpected spin-off that will enrich the universe of this saga of games that takes place in our magnificent lands.
The universe of this already cult French game is expanding with a spin-off
So no, for those who were hoping that a spin-off to the excellent Clair Obscur: Expédition 33 would see the light of day, it is not this license that is concerned by a prequel. Nor is there any question of the Dishonored saga developed by the Lyonnais of Arkane Studios. After brilliantly transporting us to the young Amicia and her little brother Hugo in A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem, it is the Bordeaux-based Asobo Studio who are back in force today.
In the two installments of the A Plague Tale license that have been released so far, we have followed the adventures of the two young brothers and sisters of the noble De Rune family facing the Inquisition and especially the plague and its cursed rats. The story of the first installment takes place in a version fantasy of the Hundred Years' War in the southwest of France, while the second chapter of Amicia and Hugo's adventures takes place in Provence and on the fictional island of La Cuna in the Mediterranean.
During A Plague Tale: Requiem, we met the character of Sophia the smuggler in the second part of our adventure. It is around this character that the Bordeaux studio Asobo has focused to offer us a new opus which will take the form of a prequel entitled Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.
This new chapter dedicated to Sophia will take place fifteen years before the events of A Plague Tale: Requiemand will invite us to visit the Island of the Minotaur with a dark and ancient curse that dates back to the time of the Minoan civilization.
