Android 16 has just arrived on Pixel smartphones with its host of new features. A technical bug disrupted the use of some devices, but a solution is already in the works. Affected users can finally hope for a quick resolution.
After several months of testing, the Android 16 update is now available in stable version on Pixel smartphones. This new version introduces expected features like battery monitoring, better multitasking, and live notifications. The system is currently available on recent models, including the Pixel 8, Pixel 8a, and Pixel 9. Google continues to adjust the stability of the system through regular upgrades.
For the past few days, many users have reported an annoying bug after installing Android 16. Navigation gestures sometimes become inactive, as do the virtual "back," "home," or "recent apps" buttons. The problem occurs randomly and affects several generations of Pixel. Some report a response delay of several seconds, others a total freeze. Reports indicate that the bug affects both the stock launcher and third-party launchers. Several users have already proposed temporary solutions to limit the impact, but none actually fix the problem.
Google's patch coming soon to resolve Pixel browsing issues
Google has confirmed that it has fixed the bug internally. According to Artem Russakovskii, founder of Android Police, the company has developed a fix that will be included in the next update. The fix is not yet available to the general public, but its deployment is expected in the coming days, probably before the end of June. All affected users should soon be able to browse smoothly again.
While waiting for the fix, several solutions can reduce the effects of the bug. Restarting the phone works temporarily. It is also possible to clear the Pixel launcher cache or use a different launcher. Some users are seeing an improvement after installing the Android 16 QPR1 beta. For those still experiencing frequent crashes, it is recommended to monitor system updates manually. The official patch should be available soon.
