While TikTok initially shunned Europe for its new online sales feature launched in September 2023, TikTok Shop finally arrived in Europe last December.
And while TikTok had until now been very discreet about the effectiveness of TikTok Shop since its launch, the latest information shared by Bytedance could well be the beginnings of a real turning point for the world of online sales...
More than 70 million products available
Although TikTok's e-commerce service was launched only two years ago, it has experienced rapid growth in record time. In the press release issued a few days ago on the TikTok website, the social network announced that it would make more than 70 million products available on TikTok Shop.
And while one might think that this would only concern a small handful of products, that was without counting on the 750 product categories available, another impressive figure for the social network.
What are the winning categories on TikTok Shop?
Even though the platform now offers several hundred product categories on TikTok Shop, some of them seem to have really transformed the test.
Clothing, and more specifically women's clothing, is Today, it is one of the best-performing categories on TikTok Shop. On the podium, we can also count on beauty and care products, but also on health-related products.
For the year 2024, entertainment and leisure are also well placed, without TikTok giving further details on these product categories.
A 120% increase in the United States
While the service was launched very recently, and it is still difficult to have enough perspective to speak of a success for TikTok Shop, the start has been successful for the platform.
According to the social network, sales would have increased by 120% on the American continent between 2023 and 2024. And while it is still too early to know whether online sales will be effective or not in Europe, TikTok has shared some figures that could well demonstrate.
According to statistics publicly provided by TikTok, content creators have already produced more than 8 million hours of content to promote products and brands available on TikTok Shop.
With this new feature not yet available in France and Europe, it is therefore very likely that this figure will increase significantly in the coming months...
