If you are one of the many users who complain about seeing their battery melt like snow, that could soon be ancient history!
Indeed, the use of certain applications could be the cause of a battery that drains more quickly than normal.
Up to 85% consumption for certain applications
While we could already suspect certain applications of consuming too much energy, this analysis has made it possible to quantify the consumption of our smartphones' batteries more precisely.
With certain applications that can go up to 85% consumption, uninstalling some of these applications can have a considerable impact on the use of your smartphone.
And if Apple recently announced that it is working on an AI mode to save battery, you can take action today if you use the following applications...
Social networks
Although the content of social networks are hosted exclusively online, some of them consume a lot of energy. Among the worst performers, we can notably cite:
- Instagram, which can consume up to 85% if you activate notifications and use the application regularly during the day
- Facebook, for its use of background data if they are activated in your settings
- X (formerly Twitter), especially if you regularly refresh the application
- TikTok, for its videos loaded in advance which could cause you to lose more than an hour of battery life for an hour of viewing
- Snapchat, and more specifically the Snap Map geolocation feature and visual filters
- LinkedIn, which can take up to 80% of your smartphone's consumption
- WhatsApp, in the case of very frequent use photo and video features, coupled with notifications
Geolocation
Some geolocation apps are also known to be very energy-intensive, especially if you use them on a daily basis. Among them, this study highlighted:
- Google Maps, because of the GPS functionality which consumes a lot of energy
- Uber, because of the live tracking of trips
- Waze, for all the features related to real-time traffic
Other applications
While social networks and geolocation applications are among the applications which consume the most energy, other more surprising applications appear in the ranking such as:
- Fitbit, very popular among Android users who use smartwatches
- AliExpress, which even uses the location of users
- Tasker, a very practical task management application, but which can harm the autonomy of your battery
