Unlikely, the video game medium is starting to get older. As the years go by, more and more licenses are celebrating symbolic anniversaries. Yesterday, the Total War saga celebrated its 25th anniversary! If it were a wedding, we'd be talking about a silver wedding anniversary. What if this beautiful milestone heralded a nice surprise coming soon?
The new Total War soon to be unveiled?
Creative Assembly is on deck to properly celebrate the 25th anniversary of Total War! In a long press release paying tribute to the birth of the license, Roger Collum, vice president of the latter, mentions a great event to come. The studio is planning a big anniversary showcase "in early December". This will be an opportunity for him to unveil "the new games that you'll be able to play in the near and distant future."
With this announcement, one game project comes to mind: the famous Total War Star Wars, which leaked in spring 2024. The DualShockers insider had mentioned the development of an officially licensed opus at Creative Assembly. Since then, we haven't heard anything else. But, if the project is real, the December showcase would be the perfect opportunity to present it.
In short, after a period of concern, everything seems to be going according to plan for the good of the Total War license. Remember, in 2024, the studio also suffered the massive layoffs initiated by Sega. However, this would not have slowed down the development of the next title in the series. Furthermore, this potential Star Wars project could well be a resounding success given the legendary status of the license.
Finally, there is a growing interest in strategy games set in the Star Wars universe. Fans have been waiting for a new one for a long time. However, Creative Assembly may have some competition in this area with the recent announcement of Star Wars Zero Company. That said, the studio has the advantage of having an already established license with Total War. It already benefits from a solid community, which knows what to expect for each iteration.
