VR (very) soon on Xbox Series X/S?

Virtual reality (VR) on Xbox? It could happen in the coming weeks. Since 2016, PlayStation has embarked on the adventure with the PlayStation VR on PS4, then the PlayStation VR2 on PS5 (since 2022). While Sony has enjoyed immense success by quickly becoming the leader in VR on the previous generation, it's clear that things have not kept up over the years.

The PSVR was the most profitable offering on the market with excellent value for money, which greatly facilitated its rise to prominence. Unfortunately, we haven't had a lot of games that have arrived since. The PSVR2 launch was a real fiasco, with a relatively expensive headset, very little promotion, and almost no games. For their part, Microsoft and Phil Spencer have always expressed their indifference regarding virtual reality on Xbox. But, as with the arrival of exclusive games on PlayStation, it seems that things have changed in recent weeks. A collaboration with META would be well on its way to offering Xbox Meta headsets.

Xbox and META collaborate for VR

VR (very) soon on Xbox Series X/S?

It is through social media that a mysterious Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition headset has appeared online. This information was verified and confirmed by our colleagues at Insider-Gaming. Microsoft and Meta are reportedly partnering for the development of an Xbox VR headset. But what does this really mean?

While Xbox confirmed during its Summer Game Fest conference its collaboration with Asus for the release of two portable consoles at the end of the year (Asus ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X), we learned that the American company would have a second partnership in progress with Meta.

For the moment, very little information around this headset and we do not yet know if it will be a PC-only product or compatible with the Xbox Series X/S. The first leaks show us the headset's packaging. We can see a box with the inscription "Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition" and the Meta Quest and Xbox logos in the bottom right corner. In the top right corner, we can see the logo of a wireless Xbox controller.

According to initial information, the headset would be priced at $399 with 128 GB of storage space and three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

In this first photo, we can see a completely black Meta Quest Xbox headset (unlike the Meta Quest headsets, which are white). We also notice a green ring on the edges of the front panel. According to rumors, the headset's official launch and presentation are expected from June 24.
