A Villain with Magical Powers
The Hood is a villain who was originally not intended to pursue a life of crime and possess magical powers. The brainchild of Brian K. Vaughan (writer) and artists Kyle Hotz and Eric Powell, the character made his first appearance in Marvel Comics in July 2002, in the comic book The Hood #1.
Parker Robbins, since that's who we're talking about, is a A young man seeking balance following the death of his father. Upon his death, his mother loses her mind and ends up hospitalized, which greatly disrupts Parker's life. Parker, also influenced by the criminal activities of his father (who worked for The Kingpin) as well as a confrontation between Daredevil and Elektra that he witnessed when he was younger, quickly descends into a life of delinquency. He also has to deal with his girlfriend's pregnancy. Between this and his mother's medical expenses, Parker increasingly needs money.
During a warehouse robbery initiated by his cousin, John King, Parker comes face to face with a demon, which he slays, before taking his cape and boots. These clothes will grant him special powers: the cape allows him to become invisible, the boots give him the ability to fly. These artifacts, once held by the demon Nisanti – the one Parker killed – come from Dormammu, a name far from unknown for this evil entity present in the first Doctor Strange.
They therefore have demonic abilities: they allow Parker to fire energy bullets from his guns. Parker's body also transforms into a clawed, big-toothed demon when stressed. Finally, Parker, the cape, and the boots are linked: he can part with them momentarily but cannot do without them permanently. It was later that he was given the nickname The Hood.
Not so unknown to the MCU
While The Hood will make his big live-action debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the series Ironheart, this is ultimately not the first time we've seen this character in Marvel productions. And in the MCU. The villain with the red cape and the always-hooded face was present in the third and final season of the animated series What If.
It was notably in episode 6, "What If...1872" that The Hood appeared for the first time. In this alternate version, Shang-Chi's sister, Xu Xialing, kills Parker Robbins and takes over both his gang and his equipment. She will be pitted against her brother and Kate Bishop in an action set in the Wild West era.
Bad company for Riri Williams
In Ironheart, Anthony Ramos, seen in the latest Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, will play the character of Parker Robbins. Obviously, we'll have to wait for the first episodes to see how Marvel Television has chosen to adapt the character and how "comics accurate" it is.
What is already certain is that he will cross paths with Riri Williams. Looking for ways to finalize her armor and artificial intelligence project, the latter will turn, according to the latest trailer, to Parker Robbins, to help her in her project, more precisely to "exploit her full potential ". We also know that the two characters will oppose each other. It will be interesting to see when and how, and we can't wait to see how the conflict between Riri's technology and the magical powers of The Hood will be handled.
The perfect character to introduce Mephisto?
While Dormammu has already been introduced in the MCU, as well as the Darkhold, there is still no trace of Mephisto, to date, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Could this change in Ironheart? We know that the series will mix AI, technology, and magic. Rumors have been rife for months, and one of them insists on a possible link between The Hood and the evil entity. Could the former be working for the latter? Knowing that Mephisto likes to manipulate people and make deals with them, we could also imagine that the latter made a deal with The Hood, a bit like the one found with Johnny Blaze in the film Ghost Rider. The presence of Sacha Baron Cohen largely fuels the hypothesis of Mephisto's imminent arrival. The latter is presented as a mysterious character by some sources, as being Mephisto by others. The answer will be in the next two weeks, with the broadcast of the six episodes of Ironheart on Disney +.
