While Xbox is gearing up for the future with two handheld devices made by ASUS and the next generation of PC-like consoles in partnership with AMD, in addition to the many games currently in production, Microsoft is reportedly planning another massive layoff in its gaming division. That's according to the usually well-informed Jason Schreier at Bloomberg.
Xbox is reportedly preparing to make another massive layoff
In just 18 months, Xbox is reportedly preparing to make its fourth round of layoffs. Since the exorbitant $69 billion acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, Microsoft's gaming division has significantly reduced its workforce, despite seemingly healthy financial health. In principle, these layoffs were intended to reduce redundancies in certain positions, such as human resources or QA departments.
In any case, Jason Schreier reports that Xbox plans to lay off thousands of employees again next week. According to the influential Bloomberg journalist, the company has a history of making significant structural changes at the end of each fiscal year, which in Redmond ends on June 30. At the time of writing, the magnitude of this fourth wave of layoffs is not yet known, as Microsoft has declined to provide any comment. According to Jason Schreier, this would primarily target the sales and commercial departments.
During previous waves, in addition to the so-called redundant positions, we unfortunately saw the closure of several subsidiaries and studios under the control of Xbox, including the prestigious Japanese team Tango Gameworks. It remains to be seen whether Microsoft's gaming branch will suffer another massacre, and to what extent. We'll see you there next week, with a thought, of course, for the presumably thousands of affected employees.
