Xbox: A long-awaited game sees its price increase, but not everywhere

Xbox: A long-awaited game sees its price increase, but not everywhere

A few weeks ago, Microsoft confirmed a price increase for its Xbox products. The Series X|S went from €299.99 to €349.99 and from €549.99 to €599.99 for the base models, respectively. Accessories, particularly controllers, currently range from €64.99 to €199.99. At the time, WindowsCentral also reported that the Redmond-based company would be reviewing its pricing structure for its games on a case-by-case basis. The axe has fallen for one of Xbox Game Studios' upcoming titles.

Xbox game price increases confirmed for a territory

While not being a major event, due to some notable absences, the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 conference had its share of surprises and left a good overall impression. Among other things, there were the announcements of FF7 Remake and FF16 on Xbox Series X|S, Call of Duty Black Ops 7, the ROG Xbox Ally console, and Persona 4 Remake. The list is long, but you can consult our dedicated article for a complete summary and watch the trailers broadcast during the evening. During this presentation, Microsoft also focused its communication on one of its upcoming games developed by one of its studios: The Outer Worlds 2.

A game designed by Obsidian Entertainment (Avowed), which joined the Xbox Game Studios family in 2018. And there's bad news for some players, as this anticipated game is seeing its price increase, but not everywhere. Indeed, as we can see on Microsoft's US store, The Outer Worlds 2 in its Standard Edition is available for pre-order at $79.99, compared to $69.99 for Doom The Dark Ages, for example. This isn't a mistake, as this price has also been passed on to other stores like Steam and the PlayStation Store.

The Outer Worlds 2 is therefore the first Xbox game to experience this increase. Should we expect game prices to rise in France? For the moment, The Outer Worlds 2 is at €79.99. This is also the price of PS5 productions. But after Nintendo's decision to move some of its Switch 2 software to €89.99, like Mario Kart World, some fear that Microsoft and PlayStation will finally take a step forward.
