Nintendo has made official the live-action adaptation of the cult video game The Legend of Zelda. Unfortunately, the Japanese company has just announced some bad news regarding the film.
Nintendo wants to ride the wave of adaptations of its cult video games
After experiencing success in video games, Nintendo has decided to bring The Legend of Zelda to the big screen. It must be said that after the success of Super Mario Bros., the movie in 2023, the Japanese publisher wants to ride this trend of adapting these famous video games into films. Thus, the famous plumber ambassador of Big N will return to the big screen in 2026 with a sequel that has been announced and is also preparing The Legend of Zelda.
Indeed, it was in November 2023, that we learned from Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto that a live-action adaptation project of The Legend of Zelda was in development. The project had been kept secret for several years. We know that Miyamoto is working with Avi Arad, renowned producer at Marvel who produced X-Men, Iron Man, Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk. The director is Wes Ball.
Fans are eager to see this live-action adaptation. Recently, insider Daniel Richtman revealed that Hunter Schafer may have been chosen to play Princess Zelda. A choice that was made by the fans because the actress from Euphoria or The Hunger Games bears an impressive physical resemblance to the character in the game. For now, nothing has been confirmed, but the main person concerned has declared herself a fan of the game and felt that "it would be really cool" to be part of the project.
Zelda fans will have to be patient
While Nintendo had announced that the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda would be released in March 2027, it is clear that Link fans will have to be more patient. And for good reason: the Japanese company has just revised its plans and announced some bad news.
Indeed, Nintendo has explained that the Wes Ball film will have its release date postponed. However, rest assured, production has only been delayed by a few months. Initially scheduled for March 26, 2027, the feature film will finally arrive in theaters on May 7 in the United States and here on May 5. On Nintendo's official X account, Miyamoto explained that this release date delay was decided to take the necessary time to offer viewers a film that "is the best possible".
This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it...

Now, The Legend of Zelda will face Star Wars: Starfighter with Ryan Gosling scheduled for late May instead of competing with Sonic 4 or Godzilla x Kong.
