After AltStore PAL, after the Epic Games Store, here is a newcomer in the (very small) galaxy of alternative stores for iPhone: Aptoide. Announced last June, the store has been distributed sparingly since then to a few hundred users. Now, it is open to all iPhone users based in the European Union.
New store to discover for free
To install the store, simply go to this address and overcome the obstacles put in place by Apple, between warnings and various authorization requests. Once this is done, the user will find in Aptoide a selection of games (PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends, Top Eleven, etc.) as well as more traditional applications (Netflix, YouTube, Instagram, etc.).
The unique feature of the store is that it also offers to install old versions of applications. This can be useful to relive moments that were deleted in later versions, or to play on older iPhones.
Aptoide offers developers an alternative payment system to that of the App Store, as well as a specific development kit. The store is already known on Android, where it has been present for years, always with this idea of preserving video games in mind.
The Digital Markets Regulation (DMA) requires Apple to open iOS and iPadOS to competition. However, the manufacturer imposes fees on developers and stores (€0.50 for each installation). Aptoide has decided to cover these costs, the installation being free.
