Android 16 recently released its second beta. As always, this allows the most observant to find out what's new for the mobile OS. In addition to a new notification display system, the interface should integrate a system for displaying battery health.
This is of course reminiscent of the system integrated into iOS since version 11.3 in 2018. By digging into beta 2 of Android 16, 9to5Google was able to take a screenshot of the future system.
Soberly titled "battery health", it now displays the capacity as a percentage, which previous versions seen in the very first previews of Android 16 were not able to display. According to the details that can be accessed, this estimate would display the capacity of a battery compared to a new accumulator that has just been installed.
Important clarification: the figure displayed in the screenshot of 100% is probably not accurate. Indeed, Android will integrate a calibration system that should take several weeks before displaying a more accurate estimate.
When will Android 16 be released?
As a reminder, this year Android 16 will be released earlier than usual. The new version is indeed scheduled for a stable release from May 2025. It should align with the launch of the Pixel 9a.
This new schedule marks a significant break from the habits of the Mountain View giant, which waited until at least the summer to release its new interface.
