The iPhone SE 4 won't be arriving this week, and it may never actually arrive... under that name. Tim Cook took to the social network X to announce the launch of a new product on Wednesday, February 19. "Get ready to meet the newest member of the family", writes the CEO of the Cupertino company. For most observers, there is no doubt that Apple is preparing the arrival of its new affordable iPhone. Called the iPhone SE, it appeared in 2016 and has already continued three generations. The last one dates back to 2022 and the brand is planning many improvements to stay in the race.
What name for the new iPhone SE?
The iPhone SE has always had several names and the latest representative of the range has three. It is officially called the fourth-generation iPhone SE, but it is more readily nicknamed the iPhone SE 4 or iPhone SE 2022. The choice of words is always important at Apple and as Mark Gurman, a journalist specializing in Bloomberg's Tim Cook talks about a "new member of the family." But which family is the Apple boss talking about?
This release suggests that the fourth-generation iPhone SE could ultimately arrive as the iPhone 16 SE. This subtle change would allow the Californian firm to reorganize its lineup, while rumors suggest the arrival of an Air/Slim model in place of the Plus version in September. Other rumors indicated that this model could finally land under the name of iPhone 16e.
What would it look like?
The iPhone SE 4 will adopt a design inspired by the iPhone 14, if the latest rumors are to be believed. It would offer an edge-to-edge OLED screen and a notch at the top, with the Face ID functionality in place of the Touch ID button. Under the hood, this smartphone would have a powerful A18 chip (the same as that of the iPhone 16) with 8 GB of RAM. This power would allow it to run Apple Intelligence while this iPhone would be the first to integrate a 5G modem developed by Apple. For the photo, it would add a single 48 Mpx photo sensor.
What if Apple does not present a new iPhone?
The most likely announcement is the new iPhone SE "4", but the site 9to5Mac indicates that other products could appear. Among the likely candidates, we expect a new MacBook Air M4, an iPad Air M3 and a new iPad 11th generation.
