It is understood that the Snapdragon X Plus and Elite chips with their Oryon cores are particularly efficient in terms of energy consumption, without sacrificing performance. In fact, they are particularly well suited to laptops, which are also the only format currently available on the market.
Qualcomm leaves its place
But why not imagine a desktop computer with such chips? No need for a screen, no need for a battery either, this would allow you to have very small, discreet boxes on your desk, like the new Mac mini (which also works with M4 chips originally designed for MacBooks).
During the presentation of the Snapdragon X chips, Qualcomm had also unveiled a mini PC for developers. The dev kit was clearly ready to see the light of day, but the group abruptly decided to cancel the project while it was in the hands of a handful of testers. Too bad! All the honors therefore go to Geekom, a little-known Chinese manufacturer, which is preparing "the world's first mini PC powered by Qualcomm".
This model in the QS range features a Snapdragon X Elite, as well as two USB-A ports and an audio output on the front (next to the power button, which is in the right place, not underneath like Apple), and… that’s about all we know about the spec sheet of this computer. To be completely honest, there are still a lot of details to be discovered, such as the launch date and the price!
Qualcomm has less powerful, but also less expensive, variants of the Snapdragon X in the pipeline. They will allow manufacturers to offer more affordable laptops and who knows? Mini PCs too.
