Apple is reportedly planning to launch the 4th generation iPhone SE in the spring, probably around March. The smartphone should also be sold in Europe, since there is every reason to believe that the smartphone will be equipped with a USB-C port for charging (the presence of a Lightning port explains the withdrawal of the iPhone SE 3 from sale in Europe).
Staying under the psychological threshold of $500
The iPhone SE has always been a special case in Apple's range, since it takes small bits from other iPhones in order to reduce costs as much as possible. And the same will probably apply to the 4th generation: it should recycle elements of the iPhone 14, starting with the design, the chassis and perhaps also the 6.1-inch OLED screen.
This future model could however integrate original elements, such as the 4G/5G cellular chip designed entirely by Apple which is intended to find a place in the manufacturer's other devices. Another change: it is a safe bet that the iPhone SE 4 will include a recent chip (perhaps an A18?) and at least 8 GB of RAM (compared to 4 GB currently) to be able to offer the functions of Apple Intelligence.
This will make the smartphone the most affordable entry point to Apple Intelligence… but at what price? Rumors around the device's label predict a price increase: we are talking about 10% more, which would allow it to remain below the $500 threshold in the United States. According to the leakers at yeux1122 — who are not the most reliable, so caution is advised — Apple would indeed like to not exceed this psychological threshold. This still leaves a little margin, knowing that the iPhone SE 3 is sold for $429.
What will this price look like once it crosses the Atlantic? The iPhone SE, which was sold for €529 in Europe until its withdrawal, could now flirt with €600. It is difficult to talk about entry-level at these price levels.
