Nintendo Switch 2: Imminent arrival but without OLED screen?

Nintendo Switch 2: Imminent arrival but without OLED screen?

Nintendo definitely does not want to live up to current technological standards. At least that is what we can think after reading the latest information shared by Bloomberg. The media outlet, well-known for its investigations and reliable sources, reports that an analyst at Omdia can already confirm an (important) detail about the Nintendo Switch 2.

Contrary to what we imagined, the console will not have an OLED screen, but will prefer an LCD screen. In terms of display, this therefore means that there will be a backlash between the latest version of the Nintendo Switch, and its successor which should normally be at least as efficient, if not much more. So it's a surprising decision, but more or less certain according to Hiroshi Hayase.

A flaw, a quality

He explains that this conclusion comes from a study carried out on projections for the next 4 years concerning the construction of "entertainment screens". The Omdia graph shows us that production will actually double in 2024 and remain at a high level for at least the next 3 years. These data and projections are established after inventorying the different supply chains.

The good news is that the screen of the Nintendo Switch 2, failing to have the fidelity and immersion of OLED technology, will be of a very satisfactory size. The analyst claims that the panel will measure 8 inches, or 1 inch more than the Nintendo Switch OLED, and still a little more than the Steam Deck. All this could be framed by significant borders, so we will have to wait a little before rejoicing.

Still no announcement in sight...

For the moment, no other information has come to confirm this theory. Although Bloomberg places all its faith in its source, we must not forget to take the necessary tweezers, because the argument is based on potential data and projections, which may not represent reality. Nintendo, for its part, has still not confirmed anything.

The Nintendo Switch cycle is slowly but surely coming to an end, and the rumors are intensifying at about a late-year release for the Nintendo Switch 2. You might think that this move to the new generation would be a sign of a major technological improvement, but that is rarely the case at Nintendo. The company stands out from its competitors mainly thanks to innovations in terms of handling or design, and leaves aside this competition of “always more efficient”.

Unfortunately, the gap is starting to be seriously felt and many players are asking for a little effort from the studio, which is always a generation behind. According to the latest news, the console would have the same power as the PS4, and would still not support 4K displays.
