Nintendo Switch 2: an outing in 2025 to avoid scalpers?

Rumors are heating up around the Nintendo Switch 2. A week ago, we learned that the console's release date would potentially be delayed. According to several sources close to the matter, Nintendo's next machine should be released between January and March 2025. Today, we learn in a new report that the Nintendo Switch 2 has indeed been scheduled for release in early 2025, and several factors come into play.

This information is due to the media Nikkei, which states that Nintendo would be afraid of scalping. This practice consists of selling off stocks of a product at its launch in order to resell said product at a high price. This practice is not illegal, because scalpers do not resell stolen goods, but it is ethically questionable. It affected the PS5 at its launch 3 years ago, something Nintendo does not want to repeat for its Switch 2.

The only way to avoid the scalping phenomenon is to have enough stock to not create a shortage, even despite high demand. Nikkei reports that this is the reason why the console has been postponed until next year, among other factors. It will be recalled that this is also the fate that was reserved for the first model of the Switch range in 2017. The concept was revolutionary and attracted the attention of many players during its first months.

A less innovative Nintendo Switch 2... but expected

While Nintendo's next console is not expected to be as innovative - if we are to believe its presumed characteristics - it risks selling like hotcakes given the anticipation it creates. According to Nikkei, the Nintendo Switch 2 should see the light of day in March 2025, as the latest rumors already claimed. The firm would then wait for the 8 years of the old model to release its new one; the time of a classic generation in the world of video games, if not already a little long.

It must be said that the Nintendo Switch has long been a bestseller. The console is still at the top of sales in many countries, and relies on 3 different models to multiply its entries into homes. After 7 years, nearly 140 million consoles have been sold. The manufacturer can still count on its licenses and its expertise in the family domain to keep a warm place in every home around the world.

The Nintendo Switch 2 could accentuate the hybrid effect of the machine, while guaranteeing specificities almost up to current technological standards, with all the same a few years behind its competitors.
